ICP and Masjid Al-Nur Merger

As'Salaamu Alaiykum Dear Community Members -

For the sake of Allah, for the sake of bringing our communities together, and for the sake of effectively using our community's resources, ICP and Masjid Al-Nur Shura' has agreed to come together as one entity that can serve the community better in the long run, in'shaa'Allah. More details will follow but here's are some common questions and answers our communities may have regarding this merger effort. If you have further questions please contact any of the Shura' members of ICP or Masjid Al-Nur.

What is happening?

Two of the largest Muslim non-profit organizations (Al-Nur Masjid and Islamic Center of Pennsylvania (ICP)) have decided to merge together to form ONE new organization.

What will be the name of the new organization?

The name has not been finalized yet but, it is temporarily being called Al-Nur Islamic Center of Pennsylvania (AICP).

What will the new organization be?

Upon the completion of the merger, the new organization will be under ONE umbrella and one management with one leadership and the same Shura or Board Members.

When is this happening?

A final date of merger or moving has not yet been decided. There are many undertakings and critical tasks that need to be completed prior to completing the merge. As always, we will keep you informed of the dates and upcoming milestones.

What about the final location? Where will we be after the merger?

The existing property of ICP including the newly acquired land and structure is being studied to be the potential location for the entire community.

What about the parking spaces and building size?

A new committee from both the Shura of Al-Nur and ICP will review and study the existing parking and building space available. This committee will work with professionals such as engineers, builders etc. to come up with a plan for utilizing the current property and potential growth to accommodate both the communities at one location.

What about the by-laws and rules for the leadership and community members?

The existing by-laws of both organizations will be studied and merged. A by-laws committee comprising of at least two members from each Shura will review, recommend the new by-laws keeping the benefit of the entire community in mind. The new board will review and subsequently approve the new by-laws.

What about the legal paperwork?

A new committee from both the Shura of Al-Nur and ICP will review all the documents and get legal consultations from the lawyers and respective attorneys to either create a new 501(c)(3) organization or re-purpose one of the existing ones.

What about the school?

At both Al-Nur and ICP, education of our upcoming generation is of paramount importance and a high priority. The school committees will look into the merging of the two Islamic schools together or operate side by side.

What about finances and commitments?

The finances will be consolidated and the treasurers of each organization will be part of a new committee and work to consolidate the accounts.

As you can imagine that this merger will create one of the largest Muslim communities in central Pennsylvania and we will be unable to accomplish it except with your DUA (prayers) and support, both financially and physically.

This is the time to get involved. Please let us know if you can help us in any way, shape or form.

Thank you again for your patience while we build this dream habitat together.
